Pune, 19th March 2023
The second half of the Parliament session which started on 13th March is witnessing continuous adjournment due the demand from the ruling party asking for apologies from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Indian Democracy made in London and Opposition demanding Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe on Adani Issue. Both the Houses had been adjourned till Monday.
Before the start of the second half of the Budget Session the government had said that its priority is to get the Finance Bill passed. But since the start of the session, both the Houses have been continuously witnessing adjournments. Rajya Sabha on Thursday functioned for only 3 minutes in 2 halves.
The Opposition has been demanding a JPC probe in the Hindenburg Report on Adani firms. The SC gave the decision to form a committee to probe into the Adani case, but the Opposition is keen on the JPC probe.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah while speaking at India Today Conclave 2023 said that “Both parties should sit in with the Speaker and discuss with each other and let Parliament function instead of holding a press conference and doing nothing in action."
The ruling party is keen on asking Rahul Gandhi to apologize for the remarks made on Indian Democracy while speaking at the Cambridge University in London. After returning to India, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference and said that he will speak on the issue in Parliament and did not make any comments on it. He also said that whether he will be allowed to speak in Parliament is the test of democracy.
