52nd Rath Yatra Preparations with Pomp In Kolkata With A Theme “Mental Peace” - Priti Singh

Kolkata: From 21st June till 27th June 2023, the city of joy is all set for pomp Rathyatra. This year, the theme of Kolkata Rathayatra is “Mental Peace”. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Sushri Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the Rathayatra. The Rathayatra route will be from Hungerford Street near Minto Park)3C Albert Road (ISKCON TEMPLE) ->Hungerford Street -> A.J.C Bose Road- >Sarat Bose Road->Hazra Road-> S.P.M Road-> A.T.M Road-> Chowringhee Road-> Exide Crossing-> J.L Nehru Road-> Outram Road-> (Straight to Brigade Parade ground).

However, the ISKCON chariots or Ratha for Their Lordships have many unique features:

1) Lord Baladev’s Ratha is the biggest in height. Its full height is 38 feet, and it is 18 feet wide by almost 36 feet long. One can wonder how the Ratha will move since there are many overhead cables etc. ISKCON devotees thought of these problems and made a customized Ratha whose canopy can collapse with a push of a button and expand to its full size in minutes. So ISKCON Ratha is collapsible.

Jagannath chariots wheels are Boeing 747 tires to make Lord Baladev’s journey smooth. Lord Baladev’s chariot is made of 98% iron structure and ISKCON has been using the same chariots for the last 45 years. Lord Baladev’s ratha is in front before Subhadra Devi’s Ratha and Jagannath’s.

2) Subhadra Devi’s chariot is the smallest, and it has got iron wheels. Her chariot is collapsible from above and from the two sides two. This chariot was brought from Mumbai in the year 2002 on a trailer since the old Subhadra Devi chariot was stolen in Kolkata.

3) Lord Jagannath’s chariot is smaller than Baladev’s chariot and bigger than Subhadra's chariot. Its full height is 36 feet, and it is 17 feet wide by almost 30 feet long. It has got huge solid iron wheels to hold the heavy structure.
