A case has been registered with Delhi Police over vandalizing of Indian High Commission in London on March 19. The case was registered after the direction given by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) upon receiving report from Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The case is registered under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Damage to Public Property Act (PDPP). It is registered by the Special Cell of Delhi Police. The protest took place after a crackdown started against Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh.
The incident of vandalism took place on March 19, when people supporting pro Khalistan movement entered the High Commission and took down the Indian Flag. The government immediately took cognizance of the incident, and the MEA summoned the top British Deputy High Commissioner, Christina Scott.
The MEA stated that British High Commission was reminded of basic obligations in Vienna Convention. The government removed the security barricades outside the British Commission and residence of British High Commissioner in Delhi. The MEA also said that the people involved in the attack should arrested and prosecuted. It also said that the UK government would stringent measures to prevent such incidents.
The MEA in a sharp worded statement said,” India finds unacceptable the indifference of the UK Government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in
the UK.”
