Srinagar, 22 March 2023: Taking the death toll to six another migrant labourer injured in the Awantipora road accident succumbs to his injuries this morning.
Quoting an official, a local news agency KNO reported that Ali Hassan Ansari of Jharkhand succumbed to his injuries at SMHS hospital Srinagar on Wednesday morning.
Earlier this month on March 18, a bus turned turtle on National Highway in Awantipora leading to the death of five persons and 28 were injured
Among the injured five persons had already lost their lives and now on Tuesday morning, another person lost his life battle inside the SMHS hospital Srinagar.
All the deceased were identified as, Nasrudin Ansari s/o Islam Ansari of Khairawa Tola Pakri Harditerha West Champaran, Bihar - 845451, Raj Karan Das s/o Shivu as Singhari Gobindpur Kishanganj, Khatia Pichhia, Bihar - 855117, Saleem Ali s/o Mohd Alauddin r/o Hakimnagar Chilhapara, Katihar, Telta Bihar - 854317, Kaiser Alam s/o Sheo Majaqurul R/O Birnagar Sharifnagar Barsoiqhat, Katihar, Bihar- 854317, Gulzar Ahmad Ansari s/o Munib Ansari r/o Bihar and Ali Hassan Ansari of Jharkhand.
The official said 10 injured people were referred to Bone & Joint hospital Srinagar, 11 to SMHS hospital Srinagar, 3 to SKIMS Soura Srinagar and six were admitted to Sub District Hospital Pampore.
The condition of the few injured is still stated to be critical, they said.
In a statement to the press in Awantipora, Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, Baseerul Haq Chaudhry, reported that a passenger bus transporting approximately 36 labourers from Jammu to Srinagar was involved in a collision on the national highway near Awantipora at approximately 7:10 am on Saturday this month. The accident resulted in the deaths of four individuals and numerous others was injured.
Chaudhry added that those who sustained injuries were transported to various hospitals for medical attention.
In compliance with the instructions of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Baseer Ul Haq, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Pulwama, has declared a Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia relief to the Next of Kin (NOK) of those who perished in the road accident that occurred in Awantipora. Additionally, he has offered Rs 25,000 for those with critical injuries and Rs 10,000 for minor injuries.
The DC visited the SMHS and Bone & Joint Hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured victims of the Awantipora bus accident. He assured that the doctors and paramedical staff in various hospitals in Pulwama and Srinagar are providing the best possible healthcare to the injured.
In an appeal to passenger drivers, the Pulwama Deputy Commissioner urged them to exercise caution while driving and to avoid reckless driving. He attributed the bus accident to uncontrolled speed, which resulted in the loss of precious lives.
According to Ravinder Paul Singh, the SP Traffic Rural Kashmir, reckless driving appears to be the primary reason for the accident.
The bus driver is currently on the run, and the authorities plan to take strict measures under the motor vehicles act to address such careless driving in the future.
The accident resulted in the registration of an FIR under number 38/2023 at the Awantipora police station.
